Mega Deal: Facebook To Buy WhatsApp For $19 Billion

Facebook buys WhatsApp
A mega-deal announced on Wednesday that Facebook Inc will buy mobile messaging application WhatsApp for $19 billion. Facebook will pay $4 billion in cash and about $12 billion via Facebook shares. Remaining $3 billion will be paid in restricted stock units to WhatsApp’s founders and employees over the next four years.

Part of the deal says that WhatsApp co-founder and chief executive Jan Koum will join Facebook's board and WhatsApp’s team will not merge with Facebook’s team. Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement, “WhatsApp is on a path to connect 1 billion people. The services that reach that milestone are all incredibly valuable.”

This huge deal shows that world's largest social networking site Facebook is looking for ways to enhance its popularity among young people. Therefore Facebook tried to buy Snapchat in November 2013 but Snapchat refused Facebook's $3 billion offer.

Mobile messaging application WhatsApp has over 450 million monthly users and they are adding approx 1 million new registered users everyday. In August 2013 WhatsApp launched voice messaging service allowing users to record their voice message and send it to their friends on whatsapp. That feature made WhatsApp a more significant messaging App among all.

Motorola Moto G, Looking Forward for a Big Success in India

While Motorola is being sold, Moto G came to India in a tie up with Flipkart to compete with Indian-branded low-cost smartphones like Lava, Micromax, Karbbon etc. There are two variants 8 GB and 16 GB are available for this smartphone.

Initially, Motorola unveiled Moto G in Europe and Brazil in November 2013, then planned to launch it in India by end of January 2014 but due to some reason company launched it in the first week of February 2014.

Since its launch in India on Flipkart, Moto G is being in demand. Not a surprise, its 16 GB version was sold out of stock in less than an hour. Another online shopping website Snapdeal yesterday announced that they received 1,000 pre-orders for the Moto G in approx two hours. The demand for expensive variant is way too higher as there is only Rs. 1500 difference between 8GB and 16 GB version.

Online retailer Snapdeal is giving out free giveaways with Moto G like 1GB Airtel 3G data, 1 year accidental & extended support warranty and a back panel case.

The phone is exceptionally good in terms of build quality and configuration. Recently Motorola has announced that Moto G will soon be receiving KitKat 4.4 update, so it will become more special phone. All and all Moto G is much better smartphone in its price segment with quad core processor and other premium features.
